ICTs to address information inefficiencies in food supply chains

چکیده

In developing countries, incomplete and/or asymmetric information contributes to inefficiencies in food supply chains. Various products and services have emerged that rely on Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) facilitate flows between agro-input providers, farmers, traders, consumers. However, not all initiatives are equally effective many struggle reach scale. this article, I review some of the earlier generally targeted farmers with price reduce search costs increase their bargaining power vis-a-vis traders. reflect reasons why these often led disappointing results provide examples (complementary) interventions look more promising. Furthermore, highlight dangers relying too much ICT-mediated information, such as exclusionary networks, bias crowdsourced data, “fake news.” Finally, explore ICT applications address seem be less successful than innovations other barriers efficient inclusive chain development, risk or credit constraints.

Mitigating Inefficiencies in Humanitarian Supply Chains

As disaster response becomes more complex, entities involved in humanitarian operations also increase in numbers and sophistication. Humanitarian actors are beginning to see the value that an efficient supply chain can bring. However, participating actors are faced with competition for funding and often do not cooperate with each other, which produces inefficient outcomes at the expenses of the...

Fragile Food Supply Chains Reacting to Risks

Introduction The food supply chain despite being heavily regulated is increasingly in the spotlight for safety scares, recalls and disruptions. Public focus on these issues has also grown following increasing consumer concerns and its consequential costs imposed on the society.(Fearne, Hornibrook et al. 2001). Information Leakage in Supply Chains

Information sharing within a supply chain has numerous bene ts. However, in the past decade, several works have pointed out using game-theoretic models that: (i) a supply chain entity may not have an incentive to share information for fear of exploitation by the party (e.g. manufacturer) with whom they share information as well as leakage of information to their competitors, (ii) the negative e...

Decentralized Supply Chains Subject to Information Delays

We consider a supply chain whose members are divisions of the same firm. The divisions are managed by different individuals with only local inventory information. Both the material and information flows in the supply chain are subject to delays. Under the assumption that the division managers share a common goal to optimize the overall performance of the supply chain (i.e., they act as a team),...
